Twitter for iOS has been updated to version 5.8, and finally adds a much needed feature — DM read status syncing. You no longer have to individually mark a message as read on your iPhone, iPad and Mac after you’re done reading it.
From Twitter’s App Store description:
When you read a Direct message it will be marked as read in all of your official Twitter apps, including twitter.com, mobile.twitter.com, Twitter for Mac, Twitter for Android and TweetDeck. When you read a message on another official Twitter app, it will be marked as read on iPhone and iPad.
Twitter has also made it easier to take part in conversations with a new reply composer, added a way to find new accounts to follow from the navigation bar and improved search to include account bio.
Twitter notes that DM syncing will be rolling out gradually to users, so don’t be surprised if you download the latest update but still don’t see any changes to your DM read status. It ins’t known if Twitter will make this feature available to third-party clients like Tweetbot, nor is it known if Twitter would expand the syncing feature to include timeline read position as well.
You can install Twitter for iOS v5.8 on your iPhone or iPad by going to the “Updates” tab on the App Store or by clicking the download link below.
Along with the iOS update, Twitter has released a new version of its Mac app as well, that includes Interactions in the “Connect” tab, giving you information about retweets, stars and follows specific to your account.
