Taiwanese website DigiTimes claims that Apple will launch the next generation iPad, iPad 5 in September.
The report claims that it will come with a thinner bezels at the side in portrait mode like the iPad mini, improved battery life and single LED tube, which could help in reducing the thickness of the device.
DigiTimes reports:
Since upstream suppliers have mostly finished preparing for the production of the new 9.7-inch iPad, there is unlikely to be any changes in terms of specifications for the device. [...]
[...]Although suppliers have not yet received a firm mass production schedule from Apple and are mainly shipping products for pilot production, the sources pointed out that pilot production is already able to satisfy demand for the initial launch. Therefore, the sources expect Apple to give its shipment estimates at the end of July or early August.
The report notes that plans for the next generation iPad mini are not yet finalized as Apple is trying to incorporate the Retina Display. However, if Apple does decide to launch the next iPad mini with Retina Display then it could result in the delay the launch to the end of the fourth quarter. The report also claims that Apple is pushing for a bezel-less design.
The September launch of the 5th generation iPad does seem earlier than we expected as we are expecting Apple to launch iPhone 5S and the budget iPhone in September, followed by the launch of the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 in October or November. The other details mentioned in the report about the new iPad is in line with previous rumors and leaks, which have indicated that iPad 5 will feature an iPad mini-like design with the thinner bezels, thinner body and back panel with iPod touch/iPad mini-like matte finish.
As for the next generation iPad mini, there have been conflicting reports about the possibility of it coming with Retina Display. However, it is one of the most requested features, so we really hope that Apple doesn’t disappoint us this year.
