Last year, Y-combinator backed Apigy had launched a solution called Lockitron, which aimed to replace your keys with your phone, which generated a lot of interest.
Couple of days back, they've launched a
new and improved version of Lockitron, which fastens securely over
existing deadbolt locks and allows you to lock or unlock the door using
an iPhone app.
You don't need to replace the entire
lock and handle like the previous version, which should also make it
appealing to people who rent.
This innovative solution offers a number
of features. You can see if you're door is locked using the iPhone app
or get a notification when someone unlocks the door using their phone or
key.
It makes use of Bluetooth 4.0, which is available on the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S to unlock the door for you when you approach it.
You can also generate temporary keys that can be sent via email to your guests in case you’re hosting a party.
Lockitron also offers a text messaging
feature, which allows users to lock or unlock their door using any
mobile phone by sending a text message.
Apigy is currently taking pre-orders for the new version of Lockitron on it's website for a special discounted price of only $149. It plans to start shipping in March 2013.
It has already been pre-ordered by more
than 6500+ people (at the time of writing this post), so you may want to
reserve one as soon as possible, if you want one in March.
