Few weeks back, photos of purported iPhone 5's battery
revealed that it has capacity of 1440 mAh (3.8V/1440mAh/5.45Whr), which
is a marginal increase from the battery used in iPhone 4S, which has
capacity of 1430 mAh (3.7V/1430mAh/5.3Whr).
Folks at Repair shop - iResQ have
managed to get their hands on iPhone 5's battery. They've posted new
photos of the battery in iPhone 5's rear shell and compared it with
iPhone 4S' battery.
iResQ has pointed out the following differences between iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S' battery:
1. The iPhone
5's battery is slightly less than a half an inch taller than the iPhone
4S. The thickness appears to be identical.
2. The iPhone 5 is 3.8V/5.45Whr while the iPhone 4S is 3.7V/5.3Whr.
3. The connector on the iPhone 5 is not only different, it is
placed on the opposite side of the battery to accomodiate its new
position within the iPhone.
4. UPDATE - The iPhone 5 battery weighs approximately .80oz. The iPhone 4S battery is approximately .96oz
The next iPhone's move to a higher voltage chemistry is supposed to provide tangible benefits to battery lifetime.
According to rumors, iPhone 5 will feature a taller display, include 4G LTE radio that are generally more power hungry and likely to be powered Apple's next generation A6 chip, so it remains to be seen if iPhone 5' will come with improved battery life.
Apple is widely expected to unveil iPhone 5 at the media event on September 12 that was officially announced yesterday, followed by the release on September 21
