iPhone 5 Has 1GB RAM

Apple unveiled the hugely anticipated 6th generation iPhone dubbed iPhone 5 at a media event on September 12.

iPhone 5 is 18% thinner and 20% lighter than iPhone 4S and comes packed with new features and improvements such as a taller 4-inch display, faster A6 chip, support for faster 4G LTE networks, improved battery life, FaceTime HD camera and more.

As usual, Apple didn't reveal how much RAM is included in the new iPhone. iPhone 5 's tech specs webpage also doesn't mention it.

There have been several speculations that it has 1GB RAM, but were waiting for the iPhone 5 to be disassembled to get a confirmation.

But it looks like we don't have to wait that long as we've got enough information to conclude that iPhone 5 indeed has 1 GB RAM. We're not referring to Samsung's anti-iPhone 5 newspaper ad.

iFans reports that the iPhone 5 has 1GB RAM based on the part numbers listed on the chip itself. As you can see in the image of the A6 chip below lists part number "K3PE7E700F-XGC2".

According to the iFans forum member, the part number indicates iPhone 5 has 1GB RAM - a dual-channel LPDDR2 memory interface, thus requiring two 32-bit die for both channels. 4 GB X 2 = 8 GB = 1 GB of Samsung LPDDR2 RAM.

MacRumors also confirms iFan forum members findings from Samsung's product guide.

The chart above comes from Samsung's 2012 Product Solutions Guide (PDF) which lists part numbers of various memory parts they have for sale. The iPhone 5's A6 part number lines up with the family of 8 Gigabit mobile DRAMs which translates into 1GB of RAM.

This means that iPhone 5 has twice the RAM as iPhone 4S, which has only 512MB RAM.
