Last week, carriers in Europe started taking pre-orders for Apple's hotly anticipated next generation iPhone.
If you thought it was bizarre to
pre-order a device without knowing anything about it, then check this
out. Accessory manufacturers have started selling accessories for the
yet-to-be-announced iPhone.
Folks at InstallorNot (via BGR)
were to first to spot that SPIGEN - a accessories retailer has already
started selling screen protector for the next iPhone on Amazon and their
website. Apple's new iPhone is widely expected to come with a taller
display, but the same width as iPhone 4S and iPhone 4.
SPIGEN also promises that the tempered glass screen protectors is coming soon. The tempered glass screen protector is 0.4mm thick and apparently three times stronger than regular PET film.
9to5Mac has also spotted a 1136x640
LCD and Digitizer assembly for the 'iPhone 5' for sale for $199 at
ChinaGadgetLand. It is quite expensive when you compare the cost of LCD
and Digitizer assembly for iPhone 4S (less than $50). At the time of
writing this post, it was already out of stock. While several iPhone 5
parts have leaked in the last few weeks, it is the first time that a
part for Apple's new iPhone has gone on sale.
Here's the specification of the part from ChinaGadgetLand:
- Replacement Full Set LCD Screen with Digitizer Assembly for iPhone 5
- LCD Screen + Touch Screen + Digitizer + Front Cover Complete set for iPhone 5
- iPhone 5 LCD Screen size: 4-inch
- iPhone 5 LCD Screen resolution: 1136 x 640
- Suitable for working with iPhone 5
- iPhone 5 replacement parts – Full Set LCD Screen with Digitizer Assembly for iPhone 5
- Spare parts LCD screen and Touch Screen for iPhone 5
Accessory manufacturers have a huge financial incentive to start selling cases for the new iPhone
as soon as it is launched, so some of them take the risk and develop
accessories based on the leaked designs or parts. But to start selling
them before it is launched just seems a little extreme. It would also be
naive to claim that the screen protectors confirm that it is the final
design, especially based on what happened last year.
We're super excited about the next generation iPhone, but let's hope no one falls for it.
